Let’s face it—I’m a cave-dweller. I avoid the outside whenever possible.
When I’m in the office, nope—no lights.

75° outside? Or 95°? Doesn’t matter, I sweat the same.
But this is the beauty of fall—the outside feels a whole lot like how I like the inside. Cool; a bit damp, but not too wet. Just enough wind, but not too much. And the fall leaves look a whole lot like my screen saver, and that brings an oddly satisfying amount of comfort to my otherwise agoraphobic nature.
Now that summer finally gave up, we can enjoy outdoor diversions without fear of scorching sun or blasting heat. Now’s the time to look into some Fall-Favorite activities and where we can enjoy them right here in Central West Virginia!
This one is a true gem. Okes Farms is a family owned and operated, and is located in Cool Ridge, WV, just south of Beckley and north of Princeton. Offering a full pumpkin patch, corn maze, 150-foot slide, and a whole host of other fall activities, this one is perfect for families looking for a way to spend the perfect Autumn evening. The amazing thing? The admission. Completely reasonable $7 per adult (2019), and kids under 5 are free. Don’t miss out on this one—make sure to come down for a weekend at the farm!
Cass is a bit out-of-the-way for the average tourist, but speaking from personal experience, it is well worth the trip. Featuring trips anywhere from an hour up the mountain to all-day excursions, the railway provides a beautiful avenue to experience the majesty of the color-changing mountains just like you would in the early 20th Century. This one is an experience almost too special to put into words.
